SpaceChina to Build Massive Space-Based Solar Power Plant 36,000 km Above Earth
China is planning to build a 1 km wide solar power plant in space, 36,000 km above the Earth. This massive plant will collect solar energy day and night and beam it back to Earth using microwaves. It’s expected to be 10 times more efficient than Earth-based solar panels. The plant could generate 100 billion kWh of energy per year, equivalent to the energy content of all the world’s oil reserves.
