Space ScienceVeteran of Indian Space Programme Dr K Kasturirangan Passes Away
It is with profound sorrow that we learned of the passing of Dr. K. Kasturirangan on April 25, 2025. He left an indelible mark on the Indian space program, notably during his tenure as Chairman of ISRO and Secretary of the Department of Space from 1994 to 2003. Dr. Kasturirangan also played a pivotal role in transforming UPSO into ARIES and spearheading major observational facilities, including the 3.6 DOT and ARIES ST Radar. As the chairperson of ARIES’ General Body and Governing Council from January 2004 to October 2013, he provided visionary guidance. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his loved ones, colleagues, and the space science community.
